Verification of Identity (VOI) rules for conveyancing matters

New rules applying to conveyancing and property transactions in NSW mean that if you are buying, selling or transferring property, you will need to have your identity verified before settlement.

We are required by law to see each client involved in the transaction in a face to face meeting, sighting specified original identification documents and making and retaining copies of those identification documents.

The identification requirements apply to individuals transacting in his/her own name as well as to those signing on behalf of a company (e.g. as director or attorney).
